A Unique Engagement In a South Philly Club
When a new client reached out over social media asking to do an engagement session at her and her fiance’s favorite dive bar- I was skeptical to say the least. But you know I love a challenge so say less.The venue was the Dolphin Tavern, a small watering hole in south Philly with a dance floor, two bars, and a huge color block light wall.
When I pulled up outside of the Dolphin and finally met Monica and Neil in person, I could tell within seconds that they are my kind of people. Monica is sweet and gorgeous, and her fiancé Neil did not stop making her (and me!) laugh. A couple with a good sense of humor is a photographer’s dream- and not only because it keep me entertained, but also because their joy and love is so obvious in every frame.
When I work an engagement/couple’s session, I have a mental list of prompts and poses that I go through. Since the location was so unique, I started by having them dance! I am pretty sure they rehearsed because they went into a sequence that was picture perfect.
If you are looking to get your engagement photos done, I can’t stress enough how important it is to get the location right. Choose a place that “fits” your relationship- and don’t be scared to think outside of the box! The Dolphin Tavern in South Philly may not be on the top of every engagement photographer’s location list, but for this spunky, fun-loving couple it was perfect!
