To get images that express love and personality without being stiff, I typically prompt my couples rather than pose them. What this means is that I give my couple a task and let them run with it while cracking jokes and encouraging them to be as silly and fun as possible. An example of a prompt I often use is “Okay guys, hold hands and walk towards me as if you’re tipsy!” This is one of my favorites because after the initial hesitation of wanting to look photogenic, couples start acting more and more like themselves. This produces the best facial expressions, and creates images that are more natural and candid looking.

I also encourage my couples to bring props. My favorite props aren’t always the classic sign with your date or confetti popper, but something that the two of you love to do together. For Jess and Joe, this is pizza and beer. Jess told me that during quarantine, one of their favorite hobbies was to try out local pizza places and rate them. I think this slice was a 10/10 🙂
Thanks Jess and Joe for taking a second chance on your engagement photos with me, I hope you love the results and I can’t wait to capture your wedding as well!
